The appearance of augmented reality in fashion, to my viewpoint, was anticipated.

How come? Because brands desperately require to be promoted widespread – by any means possible.

Under such circumstances, when brands need to be promoted through any available means of promotion technique, it is understandably clear that augmented reality, sooner or later, would be brought to this application.

Today we have the visual of brands in departmental stores, malls and big garment stores. But this time, the visual is different from the way we used to see products with our eyes. This time, we have in our sight the augmented visual of the products – mesmerizingly wonderful.

Few days back, a friend of mine, visited at a mall located somewhere in New Delhi. He wanted to buy a piece of shirts. There at the mall, contrary to his thought, he saw a human-sized mirror hung on a wall.

Unknown to him, that was not an ordinary mirror – it was an ‘augmented reality’ mirror!

Well, he was briefed by a guide how to use the mirror. To his surprise, he had the visual of himself in the mirror trying on a set of available shirts. What surprised him most was to know his status – he was seeing his virtual image trying on the clothes, but he was actually in the real world, in the mall.

He had to just pick up a shirt without touching the mirror. It was just a gesture-based command to the AR mirror. The powerful sensor and AR technique enabled himcheck a variety of available shirts without requiring him wait in a queue for a dressing room for trialling the cloth.

That’s all it.

This is what I wanted to exemplify introduction of Augmented Reality in fashion.

That is not the story of a user, that’s the reality faced by most of the shoppers. Whether online shopping or physical way of shopping, the reality of AR having introduced into fashion is noticeable. Very soon, it is going to be pervasive in India and other parts of the world.

Recently I came to know about a very gorgeous and sexy augmented reality technology – ON GROUND ACTIVATION.

This really surprised me because of its utterly wonderful visual presentation of facts and figures.

In the video which featured the technique, I saw a scene of a mall where a huge screen wasset up. The screen was displaying wild life and some historical figures. The wonder was – audiences around the screen felt they were the part of the scene. People had real time visual of everything that was actually being displayed on the screen.

For example, the audiences felt the roaring lions walking around them, which was actually not the case.

That was just a tip of icebergs.

Wonder what enthusiastic response it would bring to shoppers. It will certainly wow audiences, who can be converted to potential customers by the impression of the AR sponsored advertising.

The augmented reality in fashion comes as a great solution to shoppers and retailers. Both are benefited. From the perspective of shoppers, there is always a fair chance to make a right decision on buying a particular cloth. It helps them trial clothes easily. For retailers, there is optimistic chance for improved customer-engagement rate.
